An Animal Study on Mastic Gel for Gingival Subside Effect of the Rabbit

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives: The authors have performed an animal study on rabbits to verify the gingival diminishing effect of
the Mastic substance and to determine the optimal concentration, by application of Mastic gel with different concentrations, on the gingivitis artificially, and compared the results of the gingival diminishing effect in using Minocycline as the control agent.
Materials and methods: The author has experimented with 11 rabbits in order to investigate the inflammation suicidal effect for Mastic 3% and 7% of Mastic were used for experimental and Minocycline and natural healing group were use as the control. Gel type of each agent was applied at the rabbits gingiva around the tooth for 14 days.
Results: Gingival Index was the lowest level in the sample with 7% Mastic in 3 days treatment and Minocycline sample in 7 days treatment otherwise no inflammatory sign in all samples for experimental group compared with little bit inflamation sign in natural healing group as control. According to pathological findings, it revealed the least of the inflammatory cell in 3 days and 7 days after treatment with Minocycline, but similar as the effect in 14 days after treatment with all experimental groups as the less level than in control group.
Conclusion: It was considered that more effectiveness in inflammatory diminishing was seen in the Minocyline
group and more effectiveness for anti-proliferation of the basal cell was revealed in the Mastic group, thus, both could be used as diminishing agents for gingivitis.
